Overview: Muscle Energy Technique (MET) The Muscle Energy Technique: Lower Limb and Upper Body course is an online educational course designed to teach therapists how to safely use and apply the Muscle Energy Technique (MET). MET is a direct and active technique used to treat patients who have limited range of motion due to joint stiffness caused by certain conditions, muscle pain, or injury. During a typical MET session, the patient is asked to contract a muscle in the affected area for approximately eight seconds while overcoming resistance applied by the therapist. The set of contractions stretches and lengthens the contracted or spastic muscle, potentially easing associated discomforts and pain. The course consists of videos demonstrating and explaining how to properly use MET for the upper body regions including the elbow, wrist, and hand, and the lower body regions including the foot, ankle, knee, and thigh. After viewing the videos, completion of the associated quiz is required with a passing score of 90% or higher to obtain certification.
