The plantar fascia is a ligament that supports the arch of the foot. A strain or rupture of the plantar fascia ligament is very common and can result in plantar fasciitis. Rest and exercises, involving stretching and strengthening of the foot and ankle are particularly important throughout treatment of a Plantar Fascia Strain.
What is it?
A Plantar Fascia Strain is a strain, stretching or tearing, of the plantar fascia ligament that runs along the bottom of the foot.
Common Signs & Symptoms:
Symptoms of a Plantar Fascia Strain include pain in the plantar fascia area and in cases where a partial rupture may have occurred, a lump may be noticeable.
Assessment strategies include detecting pain location and levels, testing range of motion and strength limitations, evaluating tenderness with the application of direct pressure, and palpating for a nodule or lump along the plantar fascia area.
